Stoelzle Glass Group has completed the installation of a batch preheater at its Austrian production site in Köflach.

The installation took seven months of construction work.

The innovative technology uses hot exhaust gas from the furnace to dry and preheat the batch.

By reducing the electricity needed for melting, Stoelzle is able to lower the energy consumption of the glass melting process.

Overall, this results in energy savings of about 4,000 MWh/year.

This is equivalent to energy savings of 8% for its amber furnace and approximately 1.3% for the entire Austrian production site.

Stoelzle said the project was made possible through the BMK's environmental promotion programme.
