BG Container Glass to use climate tech to cut manufacturing emissions

Thailand’s BG Container Glass will use climate technology to enhance sustainability in its production processes.

The Thailand-headquartered glass manufacturer has signed an agreement with Air Products subsidiary, BIG, to examine strategies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the glass packaging production process.

The collaboration will make use of BIG's Carbon Accounting Platform, which was built to monitor and mitigate carbon footprints.

The focus will be to improve energy management practices within the packaging industry.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Silparat Watthanakasetr, Chief Executive Officer of BG Container Glass and Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG.

The two companies are also exploring the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel source in glass furnaces, with testing ongoing.

Mr Watthanakasetr said: “Our collaboration with BIG introduces groundbreaking solutions, including a platform for planning and tracking, exemplified by the Carbon Accounting Platform.

“This initiative, tested for efficiency in our factories, aims to manage energy sustainably and efficiently reduce carbon emissions from the production process. It aligns seamlessly with BGC's overarching vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.”
