Şişecam will invest $114 million in three new coated glass lines. The lines will be located in Turkey, Italy and Bulgaria. Şişecam will have seven glass coating lines once the new machines start operations.
Company officials say the investment addresses the demand for coated glass in the flat glass sector. They explain that the objective is to elevate Şişecam’s existing coated glass capacity, currently around 236,806,029 square feet based on an average product mix across four different lines, to approximately 452,084,238 square feet.
“Our most recent decision, aimed at addressing the rising demand for coated glass within the flat glass sector, marks a significant milestone,” says Dr. Ahmet Kırman, chairperson and executive member of the board of directors. “This initiative will almost double Şişecam’s production capacity for coated glass while strengthening our leadership in the architectural glass market in Turkey. It will also facilitate our global access to a broader global customer base with higher competitiveness.
The lines are expected to start in 2025. Officials say the line in Turkey will have an annual capacity of 75,347,372 square feet, while the line in Italy will have a yearly capacity of 69,965,417 square feet. The line in Bulgaria will have an annual capacity of 64,583,462 square feet.
