Guardian Glass and Privacy Glass Solutions have partnered to commercialize an automated
micro-shade technology designed and developed by Guardian.
Guardian’s Lyto technology darkens a room in seconds and offers privacy glazing in bedrooms,
bathrooms, skylights and entry doors. Guardian officials say the technology is well-suited for educational and healthcare facilities.
As part of the partnership, Guardian has licensed the Lyto technology to Privacy Glass Solutions,
a designer and manufacturer of privacy glazing solutions for exterior and interior applications.
Privacy Glass Solutions will produce and commercialize the product in the United States.
“The Lyto product is new and unique to the glazing market, and Privacy Glass Solutions
is a leading manufacturer of privacy solutions for the healthcare market and learning institutions,”
says Vince Westerhof, Guardian Glass’ vice president of North America sales.
“This agreement exemplifies our dedication to leveraging preferred partnerships to
commercialize a technology and provide great market opportunities.”
The Lyto technology is contained within a double or triple-insulating glass unit.
It has no mechanical parts and is activated in seconds by passing a small
current through the conductive layers, creating an electrostatic attraction between the shade and the glass surface.
Officials say Privacy Glass Solutions will make the technology available in late 2024.
It will launch with one colorway: white/off-white.
