Glass Futures recently attended the AIGMF Executive Committee Meeting in India to enhance its decarbonisation plans.

Last year, Diageo and Glass Futures expanded their partnership into key regions such as India to explore routes for decarbonising the global glass industry.

Following this, Glass Futures supported the Executive Committee Meeting of the All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) in Goa.

Glass Futures' Brian Matuszewski, Commercial Project Manager, and Dave Fordham, Global Engagement Lead, were in attendance.

They had the opportunity to address and network with an audience of industry figureheads representing the hollow, flat, solar and speciality glassmakers from the region.

The event began with welcome speeches from Rajesh Khosla, AIGMF President and CEO of AGI Greenpac, and Purvish Shah, Honorary AIGMF General Secretary and Director of Gopal Glass Works / Gobind Glass.

Mr Matuszewski then gave a presentation on the challenges and solutions to be addressed at Glass Futures' Global Centre of Excellence in St Helens, UK.

During an interactive session, industry experts discussed developments in fields such as electrification, biofuels, hydrogen, carbon capture, alternative raw materials and technologies around supporting and enabling circularity.

Mr Khosla said: “Glass is fully recyclable, and with the support of global research organisations like Glass Futures, we have an ideal opportunity to discuss green policies that each of us can adopt for a better environment.”

Tours of Diageo's Craft and Innovation Hub in Goa were also provided, during which Srinidhi Rao, Head of Sustainability at Diageo India, outlined its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) plan, as well as its net zero and sustainability strategies.

Mr Matuszewski said: “Collaborating with key players in India will prove beneficial to furthering our decarbonisation objectives with Diageo, complementing our initiatives with them in the UK and Europe.”

Mr Fordham added that the AIGMF meeting provided invaluable feedback ahead of the experiments starting on Glass Future's industrial scale pilot plant in the spring.
