Şişecam has brought forward a planned cold repair of its furnace in its northern Italy flat glass production facility.
The San Giorgio di Nogaro site's float line in Udine region will be temporarily shut down today (February 7), with the laminated line scheduled to follow on March 13.
Both lines are expected to resume operations as soon as the repairs are completed.
The Turkish-headquartered glass manufacturer said the decision was in response to market conditions, where flat glass sales have fallen short of targets for the past two years.
In response, the company has focused on optimising the production-sales-stock balance to ensure high efficiency in line with its 2025 expectations.
Şişecam plans to use Italy’s social security mechanism to support employees at the affected facility, to ensure continued income during the cold repair period.
Şişecam CEO, Görkem Elverici, csaid: "We are focused on resuming production operations in Northern Italy as quickly as possible, following the early cold repair, in alignment with our production and sales projections.
"Throughout this period, we will achieve gains in overall efficiency and profitability by increasing capacity utilisation at our other flat glass facilities in Europe.
"We will find constructive solutions for our colleagues who have contributed to Şişecam at this facility."
