Sejal Architectural Glass Ltd (SAGL), one of the leading players in architectural glass solutions, today commenced operations in its newly set up Rs 588-crore float glass manufacturing plant here.
"This is India's first ever plant, which meets international standards. With the start of this venture, we expect the division to contribute 90 per cent to the company's topline within a year of operation," Amrut Gada, Chairman and Managing Director of SAGL told PTI.
The plant, which is spread across 150 acres of land, is almost complete and is expected to be fully operational in the next four to five weeks, with a capacity to reproduce 550 tonnes of float glass per day, Gada said.
SAGL, which was converted into a Public Limited Company in March 08, 1999, processes glass at its existing plant located at the Union Territory of Dadra-Nagar Haveli.
The company started its commercial operations in the year 200-01 by setting up a processing facility for insulating glass and thereafter for toughened glass. The total float glass manufactured in India is approximately one million tonnes per annum. During the last two to three years, barring the economic slowdown in 2008-09, the demand for float glass is growing at a cumulative average growth rate (CAGR) of 15 to 20 per cent, he said.
This demand is expected to continue for the next five years, Gada added.
