The health and safety course means staff at St Helens glass giant Pilkington can operate a new solar panel production line from next January.
Their jobs were in jeopardy after a dramatic fall in demand for glass used in the automotive and building sectors.
Liverpool-based training company Sysco will provide the training in conjunction with Merseyside Fire Brigade.
