In Jülich’s solar tower power station, 2,153 solar mirrors made of SAINT-GOBAIN SOLAR GLASS ensure CO2-neutral power production.
In 2009 the Stadtdwerke Jülich’s first solar-thermal test power station went into operation. The central feature of the plant are 2,153 are mobile special mirrors, so-called heliostats, which reflects the sunlight to a receiver at a height of 60 metres. The technology which is unique worldwide, is also planned to be used soon in a power station in Algeria.

Future use in the world’s “Sun Belt”.
The solar-thermal power station in Jülich will thus serve as a reference for future commercial power stations in the “Sun Belt”, i.e. in Southern Europe and North Africa, which also play a major role in the desert power project DESERTEC. The technology and the know-how being gathered by the researchers in Jülich will be used in the world’s sun-drenched regions, in which the solar thermal power stations have their greatest potential.
