Since determining that many fenestration professionals felt a product-based green certification program for residential and commercial fenestration would benefit the product selection process for their company (

The proposed program has been likened to the USGBC's LEED program in that it would offer participants a specified number of points in a range of different, fenestration-specific categories, including condensation resistance, variable transmittance and other areas (

Tracy Rogers of Edgetech I.G., chair of the task group, explains, “There are two versions of the program under development. The first addresses products that are classified under AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08 as ‘R’ and ‘LC’ class products, or what is typically understood as ‘residential’ products. This specification matrix has been released for ballot to the GSSD task group.”

The task group will review any and all comments during the annual meeting. “Assuming all negatives and comments can be handled, it will then be forwarded for Green and Sustainability Committee ballot and, hopefully, a concurrent ballot to the Residential Products Group so the R and LC program can possibly be completed by the 2011 Annual Meeting,” Rogers says.

In addition, work will continue on the second version of the program for ‘CW’ and ‘AW’ class products under ‘101’ that are more typically thought of as ‘commercial’ products.

“Work has been started on the requirements for this specification matrix and will continue at the annual meeting with a ballot anticipated prior to the summer meeting,” Rogers says.
