Öko-Test on Photovoltaic Modules: “Very Good” for SCHOTT Solar

Solar manufacturer from Mainz achieves top score among German and foreign manufacturers in the area of test procedures

Durability of solar modules more important today than ever before

Today, the German magazine Öko-Test (Edition 4/2010) awarded the photovoltaic modules from SCHOTT Solar with the distinction “Very Good”. Together with the testing laboratory of another journal called Photon, the magazine tested 15 monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar modules from both German and foreign manufacturers for their performance and possible defects.

"These results clearly confirm that our quality strategy is paying off," noted Dr. Martin Heming, CEO of SCHOTT Solar AG, in reference to the magazine’s test results. "Especially in difficult times like the current phase that our industry is going through, we as a German manufacturer need to hold fast to the quality and durability of our solar modules," he added. Here, Heming is referring to the German government’s plans to once again lower funding support for solar by mid-year, despite the fact that there were never any plans to do so. This would mean a 16 percent reduction for solar systems that are put into operation after July 1. And yet, high yields can still be achieved with solar modules that are capable of performing for as long as possible – for the full 20-year promotion period and longer.

Öko-Test evaluated the performance of 15 monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar modules from both German and foreign manufacturers at Photon’s testing laboratory. The polycrystalline SCHOTT Solar module SCHOTT Poly 220 achieved an outstanding score in this test. With respect to the results of both "performance testing" and "defects", this module was accredited with being "Very Good".

The details of the test and all of the respective results will be published in the upcoming edition of Öko-Test and on the Internet under
