Overview
Tempered glass made from float glass via a thermal tempering process. The glass is placed onto a roller table, taking it through a furnace that heats it above its annealing point of about 720 °C. The glass is then rapidly cooled with forced air drafts while the inner portion remains free to flow for a short time. Tempered Glass is a toughened safety glass. It has undergone a special heat treatment to increase its strength and resistance to impact.
It can be devided into flat and curved/bent toughened glass according to its shape.
Advantages
High strength. it is approximately 3-5 times more resistant than normal glass. As an example a piece of 8mm toughened glass will be able to withstand a steel ball weighing 300-500gr dropped from a height of 2 meters.
Heat stability. It can withstands abrupt temperature change of 220-250 Centigrade, which is 3-5 times more than normal float glass.
Safety. If the glass does break, there is far less risk of injury from broken pieces.
